Parramatta Cumberland Family and Domestic Violence Prevention Committee (PCFDVC) was established over 20 years ago to mobilise the power of community and government agencies working in the Parramatta and Cumberland Local Government Areas in order to reduce domestic and family violence and improve the safety and status of women experiencing violence.

PCFDVC is committed to addressing issues of domestic violence in communities through organising, participating and supporting projects, events, forums and seminars. The PCFDVC wishes to support the Parramatta Women’s Shelter by organising and participating in this Family Fun Day event. Click HERE to learn more about the Committee.

Walkathon

The walkathon is virtual which means that there will not be a physical in-person event. Click HERE to learn more.

You can participate in the walkathon by registering HERE.

To complete the walkathon we invite you to walk anywhere, anytime between Sunday 1st August - Friday 1st October. With the walkathon being virtual it is super flexible to your schedule and capacity! You may wish to do one 5km walk on a particular day or set a distance target, such as walking 50kms before October 1st. Some of our participants are choosing to walk a certain distance depending on the amount of donations they receive (e.g. walk an additional 2kms for every $100 received). Do whatever works for YOU.

Be sure to share progress pics of your walk through social media to let everyone know why you are walking. Make sure to tag Parramatta Women’s Shelter and use the hashtags #walkwithus2021 and #ffdwalkathon2021.

We encourage you to complete the virtual walkathon with a team, which could include your work colleagues, friends or family members. Whether you complete the walk individually or as part of a team, you can inspire members of your community to get involved in some friendly competition and see who can raise the most amount of money to support families escaping domestic violence.

You will need to sign up as an individual first. Next you can create or join a team from your profile page. On the left hand column of the page, scroll down to "join a team" and you can select to "create a team" or "find a team" to join.

There are 2 main ways to share - social media and email! Social media is great for sharing updates with your supporters and email is proven to be effective at generating donations.

You can also use social media to:

  • Reach out to your friends and family and ask them to make a donation
  • Keep your friends up-to-date with your progress – including photos
  • Thank your supporters by posting a message on Facebook

To share your fundraising page via email we suggest:

  • Making it personal. Tell people why you are doing the walkathon and how they can help support you
  • Providing a direct link to your fundraising page.
